Application of sericite in paint field
Ultra fine sericite powder is a new type of functional filler, which is widely used in the field of paints and coatings. Because sericite powder is in the form of fine flakes, smooth crystal surface, large diameter thickness ratio, high whiteness, stable chemical performance, light weight, smooth, insulation, and radiation resistance, it is a good filler for various high-grade paints, rust prevention, fire prevention, and anti-corrosion coatings. Due to the layered structure of sericite, the dye particles enter the lattice layer of sericite, which can keep the paint film from fading for a long time.
Sericite is similar to the traditional coating filler talc, kaolin, wollastonite, etc. in chemical nature, and belongs to silicate minerals. However, its unique structure and special performance affect the relevant performance of the coating in application, for example, it has a plane strengthening effect in the coating. Using superfine sericite powder instead of traditional inorganic filler in the coating formula can significantly enhance the film strength and adhesion between the film and the substrate, improve the integrity, weather resistance, acid and alkali resistance of the coating, and improve the smoothness of the film. Applied to exterior wall coatings, it can improve their heat resistance, stain resistance, radiation resistance, and other properties.
Wet ground sericite powder can be added to high-grade paint to replace zinc powder, aluminum powder, titanium powder, etc. Wet ground sericite powder has been widely used abroad for standard linseed oil civil paint, butadiene emulsion, propylene, polyacrylate and acrylic emulsion and other indoor wall coatings, as well as automobile, motorcycle, ship paint, etc.

After adding ultrafine sericite powder to the steel structure fire retardant coating, its relevant properties have been greatly improved. Adding titanate coupling agent modified sericite powder, the heat resistance limit of the fire retardant coating has increased by 25 , the water resistance limit has increased from 28h to 47h, and the bond strength has increased from 0.45MPa to 1.44MPa.
Adding an appropriate amount of ultra-fine sericite powder to the rust conversion coating can enhance the heat resistance, weather resistance, water resistance, corrosion resistance and comprehensive mechanical properties of the coating film.
The surface hardness, flexibility, adhesion and impact resistance of the film are improved by adding ultra-fine sericite powder to the anti-corrosion coating; At the same time, it can replace or partially replace titanium dioxide in the paint formula to reduce the cost without affecting the performance of the paint.
