Highlights at a glance
Global oilseed crush volumes are on a robust growth trajectory, spurred by rising soybean demand. Key growth regions include China, the US, Brazil, and Argentina, highlighting increased reliance on soybeans amidst challenges faced by other oilseeds due to unfavorable weather in sunflower and rapeseed production areas. By 2025/26, global oilseed crush volume is forecasted to reach 580M tonnes, marking a substantial increase of 65M tonnes over three years. Specifically, soybean crush volumes are expected to rise by 11.2M tonnes in that period, reflecting a three-year total growth of 56.1M tonnes. Soybean processing has exhibited remarkable expansion, with a decade-long growth of 95M tonnes since the 2015/16 season. This comprehensive analysis underscores the importance of soybeans in driving global oilseed production, with implications for agricultural, trade, and economic sectors worldwide.
Oil World, based in Hamburg, Germany, stated that driven by robust soybean demand, global oilseed crush volumes are set to register substantial growth for the third consecutive year.
Global oilseed crush volume is projected to hit approximately 580 million tonnes in the 2025/26 marketing season (October to September the following year), representing a cumulative increase of 65 million tonnes over three years.
Since the 2023/24 season, global reliance on soybeans has deepened, while growth in crush volumes of other oilseeds has slowed markedly. This is primarily attributable to production losses in major sunflower seed and rapeseed growing regions caused by adverse weather conditions.
Oil World forecasts that the global soybean crush volume will reach 372.3 million tonnes in 2025/26, an increase of 11.2 million tonnes from the 2024/25 season, bringing the total three-year growth to 56.1 million tonnes.
The expansion in soybean crushing is mainly concentrated in China, the United States, Brazil and Argentina. The global soybean processing volume stood at 277 million tonnes in the 2015/16 season, marking a total growth of 95 million tonnes over the past decade.
