H.E. Ambassador Oliver Wonekha of the Republic of Uganda to China met with a delegation led by Ji Jingjing, Vice President of IBI

On July 29, H.E. Ambassador Oliver Wonekha of the Republic of Uganda to China met with a delegation led by Ji Jingjing, Vice President of IBI, at the Ambassador's official residence.
During the meeting, the two sides not only had candid exchanges of views on traditional areas of cooperation such as economic and trade exchanges, cross-border supply chains, and digital industrial upgrading, but also focused on exploring new pathways for Uganda's coffee industry to cooperate with China, conducting detailed consultations and reaching broad consensus. Both parties agreed that through coffee as a cultural carrier, they would deepen pragmatic cooperation across the entire supply chain—so that the rich aroma originating from the source of the Nile River can find its way into the Chinese market, jointly composing a new chapter of the Silk Road that embodies China-Uganda win-win cooperation and shared prosperity.
The Republic of Uganda is a major landlocked country straddling the equator in East Africa. Situated at the heart of the African Great Lakes region and the source of the Nile River, it is a key member of the East African Community (EAC) and the African Union (AU), and serves as a crucial node for connectivity across the African continent. In 2019, China and Uganda established a Comprehensive Cooperative Partnership, ushering bilateral relations onto a fast track of development. In 2018, Uganda formally joined the Belt and Road Initiative. Today, Uganda stands at a critical stage of economic diversification and social modernization. As a globally significant coffee producer, its coffee export earnings have repeatedly hit record highs, with approximately 1.8 million households engaged in coffee cultivation. Uganda is actively attracting Chinese investment into coffee deep-processing, joining hands to tap into vast markets including China.
